Natural Heritage Fund

The Natural Heritage Fund is a universal good that supports healthy environments and thriving communities. This is a contestable fund that supports the work of environmental groups and projects to restore and protect our natural environment.

Waikato Regional Council is keen to test support for further accelerating this work. Go Eco supports an increase in this rate to $15 per household per annum – providing an additional $1.403 million (incl. GST) per annum – which will help achieve our biodiversity goals sooner.

Regional Rail & Public Transport

Regional rail and public transport generally is a universal good that reduces congestion, and connects communities, interregional business, and facilitates access to services and amenities.

Go Eco supports Waikato Regional Council rating for public transport across the region, and supports the proposed rating formula - 80% of the funding required from rates comes from properties within 5 kilometres of a bus route; 20% of the funding required from rates is paid by all other properties in the area.

Tenā koutou e te Kaunihera ā Rohe o Waikato,

My name is [NAME] and I am submitting in support of biodiversity, public transport, and climate action.

Natural Heritage Fund

Nature and biodiversity are fundamental components of regional resilience - they support human well-being and provide for our Indigenous taonga species. Preserving and restoring natural habitats not only safeguards critical biodiversity but also enhances the capacity of ecosystems to buffer against disasters such as floods, storms, and droughts. These are critical in a climate crisis.

Additionally, green spaces provide opportunities for recreation, relaxation, and cultural enrichment, encouraging a sense of connection to the natural world that is essential for building resilient communities. By prioritising the protection and conservation of nature, regions can build resilience in the face of ecological, social, and economic challenges.

[Why is restoring and protecting nature important to me?]

I support an increase in this rate to $15 per household per annum – providing an additional $1.403 million (incl. GST) per annum – which will help achieve our biodiversity goals sooner.

Regional Rail & Public Transport

People are connected to communities, infrastructure, and amenities through transportation. A safe, affordable, and low-carbon transport system is an essential component of resilience.

Investment in efficient, reliable, and accessible public transport infrastructure is a cornerstone of a thriving region. A robust public transportation system reduces dependency on private vehicles, mitigating traffic congestion, air pollution, and greenhouse gas emissions. Additionally, it enhances mobility options for all members of society, particularly those without access to personal vehicles, thereby promoting social equity and inclusion.

I support Waikato Regional Council rating for public transport across the region, and support the proposed rating formula - 80% of the funding required from rates comes from properties within 5 kilometres of a bus route; 20% of the funding required from rates is paid by all other properties in the area.

[Why is regional rail and Te Huia important to me?]

[How does public transport benefit me and my family?]
